Preparation
The night before the event, the vehicles arrive and are 'badged-up' with the sponsors logos. We pack the vehicles ready for the early morning start. The Start
'What time of the morning is this?' An early start was the order of business today. We wanted to be on Snowdon early to avoid the rest of the charity walkers and the tourists, so we meet for 6am. Snowdon'Are we really here?' By 7:30 we were at Snowdon, and heading up the mountain. Visibility was poor, but the weather was not too cold. Apart from a couple of minor slips everyone got up and down in one piece. By 10:30 everyone was again in the car park, to be met with burgers all round. Pack up and we are away to the Lake District in convoy. ScafellAwaiting the Go Signal Arrive at Scafell a little late. Sadly a cyclist had ploughed into a car on the narrow winding lanes enroute to Scafell, and we were delayed whilst the ambulance crew did their work. We parked up and dispatched the walkers on their way whilst the drivers tried to sleep. The weather was very hot all afternoon causing stress on the walkers. Hot Stew was available for refreshments when the walkers arrived back at base camp. We set off for the last leg about 8pm. Ben NevisThe Journey Complete After a very wet journey up to Fort William, we arrived at Ben Nevis at 2am, whilst it was still too dark. Everyone got their heads down for an hour or so until it started to get light enough to see, when all the walkers leapt out of bed and started up. It rained very heavily as the walkers approached the upper half of Ben Nevis, soaking everyone through in the first few seconds. In order to ensure success, the walkers split into a couple of groups to keep the pace up, but everyone got to the top with time to spare. Coming down was done at a more leisurely pace, as everyone was now very tired.
